If you’re like me, what I most hate about the Internet is spam. It’s estimated that 97% of all e-mail traffic consists of these annoying messages that clog Inboxes and hog bandwidth. Where does this junk mail originate? As you might suspect, the biggest culprit comes from the U.S., birthplace of spam’s namesake, the canned lunch meat.
According to a new report from security firm Sophos, in the first quarter of 2010, over 13% of the world’s spam was sent from the U.S. That’s not surprsing. But guess which country takes the dubious second prize? India, with 7.3%.
Despite the prevalence of spam filters, spammers have ways of outsmarting the software. It’s a continual battle. You can do your part by refusing to patronize any person or business that engages in the noxious practice. Imagine what would happen if everyone did this. Here are some additional tips to stop spam.
